The first evidence of people on the Island was nearly 7000 years ago. Since then not much truly has changed! Although right outside of Cape Coral and Fort Myers, you'll find that the Island has more of a small-town feeling.
Even for those familiar with the island, most don't know there's different towns with completely different atmospheres!
St. James City is the most populated community on the Island but don't let that scare you away, they don't even have a stoplight! From quiet neighborhoods to bars on the canal, this is a great town for those looking to park their boat, refuel, and maybe have a Bucket-of-Fun at Phuzzy's Boat Shack!
Pronounced by the locals *Matt-La-Shay*, this will be the first community you come to as you cross the bridge to the Island. Known for it's unique and colorful homes, this quiet fishing village has dozens of small locally owned shops, restaurants, and fishing charters available year around!
Very convenient location on the island. Easy access to both the north and south end of the islands. Very close to grocery stores. The pool and hot tub are a bonus. Attention to detail with respect to the decor in the house is awesome. The house has all the amenities listed. The kitchen is well stocked and has all the utensils you need for anything related to cooking. A backup propane tank for the grill was well thought out. The house is well stocked with items we normally have to buy on every trip...hand soap, TP, paper towels, cleaning supplies.
Great place!
A nice mix of sleepy neighborhoods, fruit stands, marinas and parks! This is home to many of the many mango farms on the island and a variety of other types of fruit oriented plantations.
